What the real thing looks like!

Well it is quiting time here at the University, so I'm heading for the "Loop" to catch the bus and go home, after
a really long day. I'm kind of tired so I take it slow, my knees are giving out, take long walks with a cane etc.
Walking by the "Dumpster" on my way to the bus I spot a "BUD" cabinet all banged up and sitting next to the
dumpster. Hum I wonder if it might be repairable, so I take a closer look. The approach is cautious, seems it
is more than a cabinet, yes, there is the front panel and on it a big variac knob. Bend over "Old Man" you can
do it this looks interesting! By Jove, that is a really BIG transformer in there. They must have brought it to the
railing and dropped it over the side. Dropped it really hard too, really bent that cabinet up pretty good.
Well I waited until the next day to get some help from Kevin (in the shop) and also to get a cart to load this
thing on and get it back to where I can see what I have rescued here. We loaded it on the cart. Then took a
few pictures of my "new prize". Split it into two large pieces on the cart. Turned the front panel out so we could
get shots of the face. Also got close-ups of the meters (hadn't seen them on the first look see. Also a shot of the
chassis, big meter dropping string. Meters say this thing is made by "Savant", have to check them out on the web
see if there is any info-poopi on it.
Got it back to the shop, put it in our equipment room to survey up close what it is. A little surgery and it yeilds up
a very heavy, and in good shape high-voltage transformer, made by SAVANT. Check out those specs, this ought
to be very usable. Humm no center-tap, lets take a look at that chassis again. A-ha, that explains it, there is a
full-wave bridge on the chassis. Well this is getting interesting, so it really can "DO" 5KVDC at 500 MADC. Oh yes
this is quite the find.
I need to look at the rest of the components and see what they, Savant, had in mind for this power supply.
Turns out this transformer is actually made by "SNC" a transformer company, if you're interested find them on the
web at http://www.sncmfg.com/oem/overview.html if the link doesn't work.
