6N2
Exciter and VFO
My Johnson 6N2 setup consists of the transmitter which features a 5894 dual tetrode tube in the final. Runs about
100 watts input on both 6 meters and 2 meters. This one has a load of crystals for the two bands, but also utilizes
the Johnson 6N2 VFO for frequency control. I have run this unit combo through the pair of 4-125A amplifier
running class AB1 and it really plays well. I built a separate power supply modulator for the unit and even tried
one of my Eico 730 modulators on it. The transmitter runs CW and AM modes.

The schematic for the transmitter is here.
The schematic for the VFO is here.
The schematic for the stand alone power supply and modulator is here. Yes I lifted the stand alone
power supply, shamelessly from the DX-100 schematic. It provides all the right voltages for the
transmitter, vfo, and the modulator. All in all a decent matchup for this 6N2 combo.

Someday I will run across a 6N2 Thunderbolt amplifier that doesn't cost the price of a down payment on a
HOUSE, and I will have the complete Johnson 6N2 line.
