6N2
Exciter and VFO
- My Johnson 6N2 setup consists of the transmitter
which features a 5894 dual
tetrode
tube in the final. Runs about
- 100 watts input on both 6 meters and 2 meters. This one has a
load of crystals
for the two bands, but also utilizes
- the Johnson 6N2 VFO
for frequency
control. I have run this unit combo through the pair of 4-125A amplifier
- running class AB1 and it really plays well. I built a separate
power supply
modulator for the unit and even tried
- one of my Eico 730 modulators
on it.
The transmitter runs CW and AM modes.
- The schematic for the transmitter
is here.
- The schematic for the VFO
is
here.
- The schematic for the stand alone power supply and modulator is here. Yes I lifted the
stand alone
- power supply, shamelessly from the DX-100 schematic. It provides
all the right voltages for the
- transmitter, vfo, and the modulator. All in all a decent matchup
for this 6N2 combo.
- Someday I will run across a 6N2
Thunderbolt amplifier that doesn't cost the price of a down payment
on a
- HOUSE, and I will have the complete Johnson 6N2 line.
