This CE20A rack mount
model was a gift, from WC3E, who I specifically told, NOT to bring
anything to me
because I have zip, nada, none, as in NO ROOM for anymore equipment.
Well He and Mike WN3B came up on
a rainy weekend for a visit and Breakfast, and conversation. I showed
them some of the equipment, and also the
crowded situation, and then they were getting ready to leave and Frank
said we will leave right after I give you
these things I brought. "These Things" turned out to be two CE-20A
chassis in various states and he said, "I figured
you could use some spare parts", so here you go.
What to do, hum well I did have a
20A with a pair of open RF mixer transformers, so I considered that,
and also
there was the second "Rack Mount" front panel for the 20A, so why not?
I replaced the transformers, also
checked the rest of the circuitry out, put back the original 5U4
rectifier, brought
the plate voltage back to 360 volts and checked all the operational
portions of the exciter for proper operation.
I did some touch-up painting to the
front panel, and the cabinet, to give it a good appearance, and this
rack mount
CE20A is now being used to drive my Homebrew single 813 RF PA at
around 250 watts input.
NOTE:
The cover for the
rf plate circuit for the 6AG7s should be in place in
the rack mount and desktop model,
otherwise the
unit suffers from feedback and microphonics
when driving a linear amplifier.
