Computers at WB2FCN
Here we do a lot of "If you have to ask"
type control work.
Some of you may recognize the units, for those
that don't, well....
My FIRST "Personal Computer"
"Doing software, was a grueling thing then, and most "code"
would fit in a couple of Eproms = 4096 bytes.
Mostly with some room left!
When I went to hi-power computer development work
I graduated to this puppy!
My first upgrade computer was this "Sweety"!
10 Mega-byte HD, and 5.25 floppy and heavy!
For the software to do the development work and to
be compatible with the "Work" computer!
Oh yeah, and for storage of the software
The RL-01
For those impromptu road trips to "Wherever"!
My Laptop! Wrap those floppies in
aluminum foil and cover the windows on all the Eproms
before going through the scanners.
Most of the control code was written in assembly language,
and was referred to as "Tight Code" meaning
just the code, no wasted space, and oh yes, "IT HAD TO WORK"!
My word processor was a Xerox 820, with interchangable drives,
both 5.25 in. and 8 inch. The operating system was CP/M,
Ie; Control Programs for Microprocessors.
Of course my "Hobby Computer was "ZEKE"
best ever for me.
Rack-Mount, and ran Cromix, a UNIX derivative.
It also ran CP/M and CPM-86, and did the Weather.
