THE HIGH POWER CW POSITION

The High-Power CW position is capable of operation from 160 Meters thru 10 Meters.
I use a DX-100 as the main CW transmitter/exciter. Having its own built in VFO it provides
the necessary power out capabilities for "Bare-Foot" operation, and when necessary the
driving capabilities to excite a single 4-1000A 160 thru 10 Amplifier. The amplifier was
designed using the features of the 4-1000A rig, in the 195X Radio Engineers handbook,
pg xxx.

Here are a few pictures of the DX-100 that puts the "Fire in the Wire" for the Radio Station WB2FCN on CW.

The Amplifier is a Single 4-1000A, Plate voltage is 4200 VDC at 1.66KVA. I used all heavy duty parts for this Amplifier. The plate circuit has a 300 uuF 10 KV vacuum variable for tuning, and a 1000uuF 20KV vacuum variable for loading. It also utilizes a high-power high-Q 8uH fix tapped coil, for bringing the circuit into resonance over the entire range of 1.6 - 30 Mhz. and also a 11uH variable for fine tuning of the inductance. Loading caps, Hi-Qs, are switched in using a high-power R.F. switch for adding input caps and output caps to the R.F. deck. I wanted to see the tube so there's a viewing window for checking the glow of the 4-1000.

The tube runs grounded grid and there is a large filament choke and all the input bands are tuned
by pi-networks which are Band-switched.

Here's the R.F. Deck as I was assembling it.
I Will include the drawings for the RF Amplifier in the various sections, as some folks might be
interested in what I put in the "box" to get the BIG RIG running.

The front panel has NO meters mounted on it

for balance they are near the HV Supply.

The Rack cabinet was a "Rescued" Item, and I had the good fortune
to get it with all the necessary pieces to support the weight
of the DX-100 chassis, and also the RF section chassis.

The Cabinet,

The spacing is adjustable so I can
support the DX-100, and the RF section
of the Amplifier.

Of course it will need wheels!

And lastly, the exit-hole for the Hardline coax, Yep, it will
handle 3KW OK!

Here's the whole Amp. in its six foot rack. (Yeah its got wheels.)
