ME-165/(*)

SWR WATTMETER

AND 600 WATT DUMMY LOAD

The ME-165 SWR Wattmeter is a useful item around the shack, and shop, for testing power output
from low and high power rigs. The manual for the operator is here, and the manual for service is here.
They are in PDF format and the operator manual from "ETM" has a problem, just tell Adobe to ignore
it and continue on. The information is very useful, and the lost stuff is a picture, which is contained in the
service/support manual.

I use one in the T-368 setup, another for the BC-610(*) setups and one in the Main antenna line in the
shop/shack setup. The unit features a 600 watt dummy load made of non-inductive resistors, which are
air cooled. These units will handle the full output of the BC-610 or T-368 in intermittent service. The resistors
are 600 ohm at 50 watt and they will last longer if you don't exceed the ratings.

Although I have several, I have been using the main shack one for years without any problems at all. In order
to operate it correctly you will need to read and understand the manual, also switching
through the first three positions is acceptable with RF applied to the unit, but DO NOT switch from
SWR to Operate with RF applied, as the switch contacts will suffer arcing. The calibration can be setup
using a Bird wattmeter to set the meter to the proper value transmitting into the dummy load, once set
there is very little need for adjustments.

This is the line drawing for the face.

Also the schematic for the curious, lots of useful info

if you don't want to save the PDF file, manual.
